Shopping, explosions and wax people.
Since Gary's friend was with us for the week from the 3rd up until the 8th we started our 4th of July with a trip to the local outlet mall, Jersey Gardens. After an expensive taxi ride out to the mall, we shuffled in and began making tracks around the mall. It finally gave me the chance to pick up some much needed sock supplies, the initial ration of 1 pair were beginning to fray after 3 months. After our few hours it was time to head back to the house to begin the trip into NYC for 4th of July festivities.
In a rushed attempt to make it into B&H before closing, we dumped our shopping in the apartment and bolted out the door, arriving at B&H 5 minutes before closing, bish – bash – bosh $500 spent. From here, we made our way towards the fireworks display on the east side. After being searched 3 times in the space of 100 feet we made our way onto some bridge to watch the events unfold. It was a bit of a wait for the fireworks to start, and rain teased with the idea of putting a dampener on things but once the spectacle got underway it was nothing short of breathtaking. Wide-eyed but stiff-legged we made our way home. 4th of July hadn't exactly been the over-the-top patriotic juncture I was expecting (and it's probably for the best), but the fireworks were more than enough to satisfy.
On Friday, Gary and Darren meet up with me after work and we made our way into NYC to check out Madam Tussaud's. This place was the business! We spent an easy few hours in there without noticing. Filled with wax models of famous people, it provided ample opportunity for posing; illicitly (just ask Gary).
Still got some catching up to do.
Yarr! Shiver me timbers, if it isn't Cap'n Jack Sparrow himself.
Myself and Elton having a gay old time.
Mmmm, tastes like chicken.
Jerry - Jerry - Jerry. (That's Gary btw)
Rock on.
We must seize this opportuinity.
Scha-mo!
She's mine, back off.
Well, that's pretty much it for this week....so far. Tune in later this week (hopefully Wed or Thur) for an extra special mid-week blog.

So Gary IS real!!!! Or is that just a waxwork?
Am surprised there wasn't a bigger (well massive actually) USA-style celebration for the 4th. Was there a parade? Surely a parade. We haven't seen one of them for maybe TWO weeks!
Looking forward to Wednesday to Thursday, hopefully, for another Blog-bit. "Scha-mo" indeed!
Great. 2 blogs in a week: look forward to it. I love the tan: clearly all this good weather in NY is not lost on you: I think today is the 28th rainy day in a row here. Its no wonder you look so happy in all the photos. Hey: Gary made it to the Blog too, must be a special day this 4 July. How was Jersey Gardens, did they sell anything other than socks??? More to the point have they any socks left now! I though we were bad on our Arctic trip where we sometimes stretched items to a second day but you have illustrated that we were grossly overloaded with clothing. For three weeks at your rate we would not have needed panniers at all. I still recall the surprise Gary's mother registered when your bag weighed so little on departure: now she knows! Was at the European Open yesterday, you would have loved it: an hour of sunshine, then cloudy, overcast, then raining and then thunderstorms - no chance for your hay fever this year! Place was a mud bath at times: literally for some who ventured onto the course from Hospitality in their fine shoes. Not a good plan as they slipped on the muddy slopes and got covered: we wondered if they would be allowed back into hospitality in that state. Oxygen was on too and wellies were all the rage. Good that you made it to B+H, keeping them in business, and I hope you got some good gear. C,B and R are in Cannes this week, if your don't mind, which might slow then down getting to the Blog.
Quick draw Seamus: got there a minute ahead of me. I knew checking spelling and grammer was just a waste!
Yeah, it was high time I included Gary in the blog pictures. People were beginning to question if he really did exist, or that he was still around, so there you have it, proof!
I was surprised too Seamus, I was expecting miniature American-flags to be peppering the streets, I was expecting the sky to have turned red, white and blue, I too was expecting a parade a least (There is one, but it's in DC); but it was not to be. The subtlety was nice though, and the fireworks were crackin' good fun.
Jersey Gardens did sell more than socks alright, but socks were the priority and everything else took a back seat.
Anna's sister was at Oxygen alright, came back a lovely shade of brown so I hear.
Unfortunately, the trip to B&H was not for myself this time, but I'm sure they will be helping themselves to my money at some time.
