The hunt begins.

So, where did I leave off?

Yesterday, we spent the day calling around the potential rentals and trying to arrange some viewings. Before we could do that though, we had to have a fry, why? Why not. After being ripped off yet again for some suasages and rashers, we made our way home to burn Carmel's house to the ground. It turned out great in the end though, and I think Gary shall be the house chef from here on.

Once we started calling around (call-cards actually worked from Carmel's phone, public phones were stealing our money) we managed to arrange a couple of viewings all around the same time, so we were happy with that. While awaiting responses we watched a variety of Judge Judy knock-offs, Judge Alex, Judge Mary-Jane, Judge Bobby Johnson etc.... it was eye-opening.

At about 6, we headed back into town to check our e-mails and just to have a walk around. We set ourselves up for social security while we were down there too.

On the way back from the village, we stopped by in the local park and just sat there for an hour or so watching people play basketball. We went back to the apartment, enjoyed some delicious reheats, watched some TV and went to bed. Not as hectic as the first day, but productive.

Today, we woke early (~8am) to head into the viewing that we had arranged, the first of which was at 12. It was a short enough walk from the train station and once we got thier we were quite happy with the fellow tenants and with the apartment, however the area is slightly questionable. The second apartment we had to walk back to was very impressive, included all utilities, was in a very comfortable area and was being rented by two nice ladies. When we asked about a 6 month lease, we were turned away. :( They might give us a ring if things don't work out for them, but we're not holding our breath.

And that brings us to now. Sitting in Dunkin' Donuts again, with very tired legs.

Gonna go and view some more places, and perhaps re-visit the first apartment we went to. So far, it's going well, although we are slightly disheartened at the lose of the second apartment.

Apologies for the lack of pictures this time, I will try to take more as requested by my faithful readers!

Day1 : Men on a mission

Spent the day yesterday walking around NYC and New Jersey. We called into the office while we were over in Hoboken and everything went well, starting with an easy start Monday morning. Although we did have some grief with the elevator man, who brought us up, then down (once we revealed we had no appointment) , then up again when we told him we would be beginning work on the monday (and once we worked the Irish charm of course). The Office is right by the train station, waterfront, and directly accross the road from an Irish bar.

Here is the office (Grey building on left)...

Turning around 180 degrees from that same spot and you get this...

Here is our office on the left, with Irish bar highlighted for dramatic effect...

This is a rough idea of the distance from the PATH station, about a minutes walk...

After Hoboken we headed into Journal Square in Jersey City to have a look around the area where we might be getting our apartment. After wandering around for a while and getting totally ripped off with those phone card things, we headed back to NYC. Seems like a decent area though and there was plenty of people walking about once the school-kids were released.

We wandered again in NYC, before heading off for something to eat but on our way we saw a crowd gathering beneath one of the buildings, so naturally, we gathered too. It appeared to be a man with one leg hung over the side of a building, with police and firemen below. We stayed for a while out of morbid curiosity but moved eventually. As we were making our way back to the subway we saw this "man" from a new angle, and it was just some piece of steel... how anti-climatic. Futher on down the road we stumbled accross none other than Carmel, it's a small city after all. We went home together, had some dinner, and slept.

The "man"...

Today we are starting the day in an Irish Community center, and were guided down to the computers by some girl from the north, feels like home! Just checking a few e-mails and we got some returns on our inquiries so we have some people to ring and some apartments to visit.

The eagle has landed.

Flight was not too bad, got to see Casino Royal, well, some of it, I slept for a while. Arrived in JFK last night bang on time and Carmel followed shortly after. Got back late last night and was in bed early at around 10, not before we had the obligatory large pizza. Up early this morning an into the heart of NYC in less than an hour. We emerged out of the subway to the sight of the Empire State building, not a bad start.

Finally found a FREE wireless access point in a starbucks (who says they are so evil after all) and we are now going through some apartments and readying ourselves to head of the New Jersey to have a look around.

Not a great first post, but bear with me while I get used to all of this.

Later.
