The great escape.
Back again.
Continuing on from where we left off yesterday, we decided to make our way back down to the first apartment to have another look at the neighbourhood. As we made our way down the streets, it was now later in the day, and there was a few more people out on the streets, and the more people that came out, the more we stood out and got stared down. Things were starting to feel a little tight under the collar. We went down with the intention to ask around for opinions of the area, and as we closed in on the apartment we spotted a police station that we had not seen earlier. Perfect.
We approached a police officer entering the building and asked him "Is this a nice area?" , his response was less than joyful. Guns, Drugs, Criminals all came into the equation. He gave us directions with which we could flee as quickly as possible, we all had a good laugh, then began motoring.
Having escaped the hood and found refugee in a camp of Hispanic soccer players, we decided to sit for a while and enjoy the game without the need to worry about being shot/robbed etc....
We left at half time, reds beaten Germany by about 5-0.
We continued to move as far away from the hood as we could manage, and as we did so the area definitly began to pick up...
Ignoring the random sleeping guy int he park, the area was leaps and bounds ahead of what we had left behind us. We decided to move on towards the waterfront before heading home and as we did so, we came across a realtors and decided to call in. It was the right call, as we got talking to a lady in there who helped us out a lot. She told us which areas to avoid (the ones we had spent the day in) and which areas to look in. She printed off some places that might interest us, and got us in touch with a friend of hers that might have some places (he did, but they were too expensive).
We headed to the waterfront for a quick look before heading home...
I remembered Sinead's request though, so tried to take a few shots of the city as I walked, although it was starting to get dark so they are not the best...
That last one is the ant's eye view of The Empire State Building, not very impressive, I know.
Back in Carmel's we had some rest as we were wrecked from walking all day, then walked down to the main street to get on the 'net and start organising some more viewings. We got talking to one woman down at the village and arranged a viewing for 12:30 on Sunday (today), we e-mail others and got some numbers.
We ate back at Carmel's and then she suggested a trip around NYC at night, we complied. It's a shame I didn't bring the camera as the views were great down around Time Square etc.. but I was way to tired to even press the shutter. Another time.
We got home. We slept. Here is a summary of the day.
We had survived. The day was deemed a success by all.
Today, we woke early and went back to NJ for the viewing that we had arranged the night previously. We arrived at the house, which was just a short distance from the (nice) house we had been viewing the previous day, and loved the area. We were invited inside by the owners, and they showed us around, all was well. She took us aside at the end, and siad that someone had shown interest for a 1 year lease but she would consider us.
Walking around the area we picked up a few numbers from window signs for rentals, one house we knocked into, and the place was destroyed, the owner said it would be ready in 10days... but we beg to differ. Plus, he thought we were mormans.
Sitting in an Irish bar in NYC we receieved an e-mail from Vanessa (the lady from earlier) saying that they had decided to go with the couple for the 1 year lease (surprise, surprise!).
I have probably ommitted a load of things (and please ignore spelling and grammar for now!), but it's tough trying to remember it all in some bar in NYC!
Heading out now, not sure where, probably back to Carmel's house.
Until we meet again.
